Zippy was a tiny puppy at birth weighing only 8 ounces. She would zip in and out trying to find her place to eat among the huge pile of puppies, hence the name Zippy. Zippy was sold as a "pet" first, but she was a "brat" and was returned to Gussie, the breeder. A very LUCKY happening for all of us.
As a young bitch in the show ring, Zippy was always shown by her breeder, competing in both the Breed and Performance rings. Zippy had that wonderful movement and gait that doesn't always show up in every litter. Her first time out she took a five point major from the 9-12 month puppy class.
During one of her first times on the show grounds, it was discovered that Zippy could very easily escape from her x-pen. She would just climb up to the top, hop down, and make her big escape. After that, her x-pen would always have a top on it. She competed as a specials bitch and won breed easily over other specials with handlers. Novice obedience was a breeze. She earned six legs, never flunking, always in the top four of the class.
With Zippy's very first litter, she gave Kristi Germain and Vicki Stephens-Williams a once-in-a-lifetime puppy that would become a multiple Best In Show and multiple Westminster Breed winner, CH Aurinko-Marki's Winning Wager. We have many generations of Zippy in our home but still miss her dearly. She has left a legacy that lives forever, and now it is up to us to nurture it.
